Year For Priests
June 19, 2009 - June 19, 2010

"Faithfulness of Christ, faithfulness of priests" is the theme of the Year for Priests announced on March 16, 2009, by the Holy Father. The Pope will inaugurate the Year on June 19, presiding at Vespers in St. Peter's Basilica where the relics of the saintly 'Curé of Ars' will be brought for the occasion by Bishop Guy Bagnard of Belley-Ars, France. He will close the year on June 19, 2010, at a "World Meeting of Priests" in St. Peter's Square.

The Congregation for the Clergy, together with diocesan ordinaries and superiors of religious institutes, will undertake to promote and coordinate the various spiritual and pastoral initiatives which are being organized to highlight the role and mission of the clergy in the Church and in modern society, and the need to intensify the permanent formation of priests, associating it with that of seminarians.

This shrine will be a place where the faithful may come to pray for priests and seminarians.

Also, all will have an opportunity to offer Holy Hours of prayer before the Blessed Sacrament for the priests and seminarians of the Tyler Diocese and for the United States Bishops. Postcards will be available in the Adoration Chapel, already stamped and addressed to each one of these men. You may pick up a postcard for a specific one, offer your Holy Hour for him, and then sign and date the card and drop it into the mail. Praying for our priests, bishops and seminarians throughout this year will be one of the best gifts we can offer them.

Prayer for Priests
God our Father, you reveal your omnipotence
in the superabundance of your mercy,
poured forth into the world through
the sacred wounds of your Son and our Redeemer.
We ardently pray that your sacred ministers
may be clear reflections of your mercy.
May they, with every word and deed of their life,
illumine humanity, disoriented by sin,
and bring it back to you, who are Love.
We ask this, Father, through your Son,
our Lord Jesus Christ,
who lives and reigns with you
in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
forever and ever. Amen.
